I threw a kid out of class yesterday. He was really asking for it, he had already earned frowns for his team, and then got himself a corner, and then I told him to get out of my classroom.
Whenever I say something like that, I secretly laugh because it just sounds so weird coming out of my mouth. My little brat doesn’t know it’s been, like, ten minutes since I was on the other side of the desk, and he was pretty intimidated. Plus, then his Chinese teacher saw him standing in the hall and yelled at him.
One unexpected side effect is that now when I point at the door in that class, I get dead silence in the classroom.
Haha nice. I’ve never thrown anyone out of class, though I have thrown notes for cheating on exams out of the classroom window. You’re right about being on the other side of the desk: though it was two years ago, my student experience is still fresh enough in my mind to allow me to imagine how the students view me and the class, which is a helpful tool for a teacher to sustain an interesting and hopefully trouble-free class. But I guess sometimes you gotta drop some bodies.
It’s been 18 months since I was a student… but whenver I say something like “Where’s your homework?” it makes me laugh.
I usually give the kids smileys and frowns, which is usually enough to maintain good behavior. But sometimes…
Good for you! I do that to a choice few, but I send them straight to the office…and then send a student down with a write-up on their behavior. HA! It feels great to get rid of the nasty ones for a little while.
