The Flip Side Of Spitting

On the bus today, I blew my nose and then looked about for a trashcan to get rid of my tissue. There wasn’t one, so I pushed my tissue into my pocket to throw it out at home.

I noticed a girl staring at me, but thought nothing of it, until she poked her friend and pointed at my pocket. I don’t know what she was saying to her friend, but she was clearly as disgusted by my tissue use as I am by clearing one’s nose into the street.

    What about using a handkerchief?

What kind of trashcan in the bus?

A bus is a trashcan on wheels – and not only in China but in my country too.

Flippancy aside, when you think about it doesn’t stuffing a rag/tissue full of snot into your pocket disgust you? Sounds quite unhygienic but I do it without thinking.

I completely get why she was revolted, I know that a used tissue/hankie isn’t exactly hygenic, but it’s something we (most Americans) wouldn’t think twice about putting in a pocket. It seems cleaner and more polite than dropping it on the ground, although there’s nothing lovely about pulling the tissue out later.

I still don’t think a used tissue is as unhygenic as the blow-in-to-the-street method of clearing one’s nose, but no matter what you do with it, blowing your nose is kind of gross.

Snot is gross no matter what. At least no one will step in ur tissue.
