Raleigh is South Lite, really ... half the people are from the Northeast (along with Michigan and Ohio). Only you get sweet tea and Bojangles to go with it.

I think the term you're thinking of is "inside the beltline" ... basically, all it means is closer to center of the city. Since it's a circle, if you live inside the circle, you're inside the beltline. Housing is much expensive (expect for the slummy areas). For example famous dead guy Jesse Helms lived inside the beltline.

G -- Beijing has concentric circular highways called ring roads (radiating out from the Forbidden City), which makes navigating much easier when you can say something is on the NW corner of the second ring or something like that.

Cory -- Oops. BTW, when someone says they're "near the beltway" what road are they talking about?

Circular highways? Ring roads? What the heck are those?

Any kind of highway that we don't have here in Jersey don't count as real highways to me.

540 isn't actually a complete loop ... they're undecided on if it'll be completed. So you can call it the ring and a half. Or maybe the doughnut and bearclaw.

But ring has a nice, uh, ring to it :D
