Watching Twilight for the second time, I noticed all sorts of things I missed the first time. Edward was even hotter, and the dialogue was even more stilted. And the second time through the Google montage, I started to wonder what keywords Bella would use to get all the sites about the Cold Ones. Yeah, I go to watch teen vampire drama and start thinking about search engines.

You notice inconsistencies in something that you are expert at. I can’t see any lawyer films, or films about DC with my dad who worked as a government lawyer. His suspension of disbelief get’s broken too easily and then he’s just picking holes in the movie. Using the web is ubiquitous enough that soon filmmakers will need to get it right every time. Like a character using a phone. You don’t see people messing up and looking stupid on the phone, why should they mess up using the computer or the web?
I guess a research montage is no different from any other movie montage, but I’m used to seeing a sped-up collage of pictures to tell me someone’s, say, working out. I don’t feel the need to point out “hey! Rocky never did any sit ups! And yet his stomach is hard!” haha
It just started me thinking about how I *would* go about Googling my vampire boyfriend…
I wonder what happens the fifth time you see it ….
Hmm. Has someone — maybe someone in your house — seen it 5 times?
When you’ve seen it a “couple” times, you start making excuses for some of the awkwardness… which really does remind me of high school. You would also notice the writer, Stephanie Meyer, in one of the diner scenes.
Actually, I know the scene you’re talking about!! The waitress says “here’s your veggie burger, Stephanie” and then goes over to Bella and her dad. I remember thinking (the 2nd time through) that it was an odd moment because she doesn’t look like a Forks person so it doesn’t add much background. hahaha
