'Course, the only guy I met from that was a small weaselly guy from Rutgers. (We went on one date, and then I told him via email that I was gay to get him to stop calling me.) I did have a friend in college though who met her boyfriend online, I believe through a MUD. They got married, although no clue if they're still together as we lost touch over the years. There was a lot of programming done on college campuses and such even as early as the low 80s. They didn't really go into heavy circulation until the early 90s however. They were just starting to experiment with 'Graphic MUDs' (mostly attempts to tie character descriptions to web images) but full blown MMOs didn't show up for two more years.
