I suspect that there’s supposed to be a joke here that I’m missing, probably based on the usage of the word “optimist”.
However, Optimists International is a fairly large organization, with lots of “clubs”: http://www.optimist.org/
So, the joke kinda relies on the reader not knowing that. Sorry to ruin it for you.

Yeah, I saw that they were affiliated w/ the local Boys&Girls Club, but my first image was a group of people meeting up to talk about how great everything is, and how happy they are! So I thought I’d share. Perhaps it worked better in my head.
