Hi! How are you doing? I am sorry that I haven't been in touch with you lately. My life has been crazy … I will write you properly soon. Hope that you are doing well and are caught up with all the Mad Men epi. We have to chat about Mad Men soon! So much has happened on the show and only three more left. We have to talk about it!

I suspect that there’s supposed to be a joke here that I’m missing, probably based on the usage of the word “optimist”.

However, Optimists International is a fairly large organization, with lots of “clubs”: http://www.optimist.org/

So, the joke kinda relies on the reader not knowing that. Sorry to ruin it for you.

Yeah, I saw that they were affiliated w/ the local Boys&Girls Club, but my first image was a group of people meeting up to talk about how great everything is, and how happy they are! So I thought I’d share. Perhaps it worked better in my head.

No, Meg, that’s what came to my mind too, an optimists’ society like the Masons!
