Ending A Phonecall with My Sister

Phone conversation with Allison tonight. Friends of ours got married on the Cape this weekend, and I’d already talked to Eric, who’d officiated the ceremony as a temporary justice of the peace, about the wedding. But when girls talk about bridal gowns, they need more and different adjectives than engineers like Eric like to give. (Although, Eric did have a short description of the gown, when I’d been expecting him to say “it was a dress”). Allison is one of my UMass crowd, but now she and her husband live in Texas, so they combined the trip to the wedding with a Mass vacation.

Allison: … and then we went to Provincetown.

Meg: Did you go to all the bookstores?

Allison:  And all the sex shops.

Meg: We have different priorities.

Allison: I said “and”!

Meg: Aren’t you leaving for work soon?

Eric: No, Meg. In this country we have a holiday called Independence Day, and most people have that day off from work.

Meg: Oh, right, it’s that day when a couple people light off a few fireworks. Boring!

…last week, I accidentally called your mom at like midnight…thinking I was calling Beth’s CELL PHONE, but I was calling the house, LOL. I apologized to your mom, and she was like, “That’s okay, Germaine. I thought you were Megan because she usually calls at this time.”
