Meg’s Teaching Experience

Fall Semester 2008 -present Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh Academy of Chinese Language

I teach SAT vocabulary to college-bound highschoolers. My students’ English abilities range from non-native speakers who’ve been using English as a primary language for a few years, to bilingual students, to native English speakers from Chinese-speaking households.

I began as an assistant teacher in September of 2008 but became lead teacher in November.

Spring Semester 2008 Beijing, China

21st Century Experimental School, AP Program

I taught English literature to 5 classes of high school students. My students were able to communicate in English, but needed to improve their understanding of literature, writing skills and grammar before applying to colleges in English-speaking countries.

Fall Semester 2008 Beijing, China

Yihai Primary School

I taught first grade ESL. I met with six classes of students three times a week to play simple games and introduce new vocabulary.

I also decorated the classroom!

Spring Semester 2007 Worcester, Mass., USA

Quinsigamond Community College ESL Program

I taught level 3 ESL to adult students with mixed native languages. I adapted my teaching methods to teach practical second-language survival skills. This was a fantastic chance to help new immigrants adapt to the US. My experiences living in China helped me understand my students’ communication needs and cultural confusion.

2006 Yantai, Shandong province, China

Best English Training

I taught basic ESL and conversational English to native Chinese and Korean speakers. I planned lessons, developed games and study guides, and tutored individual students. My students were all different ages and ability levels, from a cute class of Korean kindergarten kids, to an after-work adult class.
