Waiting
Eight or nine years ago, I worked in a diner while on a, ahem, break from college. The Pioneer Valley is full of similar college-age breakers, finding themselves, forming bands, creating art, getting that awful first novel out of the … Continue reading
A New One For The Baby Name Book
Our first-grader niece Isabelle asked Santa for a Snuggie (without irony) and a dreidel. We’d already gotten her a gift, but I’m hoping to spread the traditional Christmas latkes to the Malavette clan, so Stick went out searching for a … Continue reading

Triangle IGDA
I went to the Triangle IGDA meetup last week, while Stick was away in Charlotte. It was a bit nerve-wracking going in, but I hadn’t even gotten my name tag before I started talking to a newly-local indie game dev, … Continue reading

The Registry of Deeds
The other night, Stick and I went to a wine tasting, where I clarified my life goals. Um. Yes, I suppose that needs an explanation. We stopped in to a wine tasting at a small shop, just another thing I like … Continue reading

This Is Just To Say

My Boyfriend
I’m playing and reviewing THQ’s My Boyfriend DS game right now, which was funny before I even opened the game. Stick’s asked me if I like My Boyfriend, if I’m glad I got My Boyfriend, if I’m going to write … Continue reading

Look, another post where I hold up something to which I’ve contributed to in a tiny way! My Craftsman Farms blog and I are mentioned in this business communications textbook! I’m on page 5, so this will be covered early … Continue reading

Lights, Camera, Curses!
When Stick and I are shopping, we like to look at the PC games for sale and see how we’re connected to each one. Stick will point out games that he worked on, or that his friends and former Cyberlore … Continue reading
Montezuma’s Revenge
I say that we’ve been playing multiplayer, but actually I think we’re playing two entirely different games that just happen to look similar. Let’s start with the fact that Stick likes to sing the Civilization themesong… which doesn’t have words. I don’t even turn on the sound. It’s not that I don’t like the song, I just don’t care too much for in-game sound effects. I played the game for months before we happened to play a hotseat game on his PC, and I learned that the units speak in their native languages on activation. The Chinese units (usually mine) say “What do you want?” and the Romans (usually Stick’s) say “What are your orders?” Continue reading

Play! A Videogame Symphony
Stick and I went to Play! A Videogame Symphony at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre a few weekends ago. We joined the crazy quilt of blankets, over a carpet of drying pine needles, and unpacked our cheese, olives, Nintendo DS, and … Continue reading
